i am wondering how well these headers will fit my 1997 F150 with a 4.6L and 5 speed.
on the summitracing site they all say they wont fit if i have a manual transmission....yet i am wondering how thise is goin to affect anything?...is the bellhousing bigger on a manual or what would cause it to be different.
reason being i came across a really good deal on used set of these and would like to replace my stock leaky manifolds.
Why were they removed from the previous owners truck? JBA usually makes a good header. If they were OK on the old truck, they should seal with good gaskets on yours.
i am not sure why they were removed...but this guy bought them and the seller told him they were for a 5.4L truck.....but they are actually for a 4.6L truck....so now he is just trying to get rid of them...
they appear to be in good shape...and supposedly only have 300 miles on them.
also do you know anything about the manual transmission thing?...is it going to affect the headers or no?....right now my down pipes after the header are all custom around the transmission and i have dual pipes with 2 Flo-Pro mufflers out the passenger side.
i really don't see how it could affect things since the headers don't go back as far as the transmission.
I noticed on the summit racing site that the header application says 'yes' to a floor shift manual trans. and 'no' to a column shift manual trans.Which one do you have?. I would suspect that the column shift linkage would interfere with the headers.
These are designed to bolt right up to the factory Y pipe, so they will fit, the fitment guide says that they won't fit standard column shift, but that is because it was never an option on these trucks.
