Which headers

I am going to get a set of headers. I am up in the air between Ford racing headers and JBA's. The coated JBA's are super expensive, so I will be looking at the stainless ones. The only two differences that i can see is the Ford racing ones are 1 5/8 and JBA's are 1 1/2 and the JBA's are 150 more. I don't know if the extra size would hep or hurt and I never really hear to many people mention ford racing headers, so i was wondering if there were any issues with them. Also I refuse to buy Bassani headers, so no need to mention them. Thanks in advance for any help

I have the ford racing headers and they fit great. There is one bolt that is hard to get to, but besides that I love mine.

Yes, JBA is a good header. I believe they might have them available with 1 5/8 primaries too. If your running a mostly stock engine you would be fine with the 1.5's.

So, now you have my curiosity...your signature lists a Bassani cat back exhaust on your rig but you refuse to buy their headers? wassup?

https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/s...hreadid=204605 Its unfortunate. Myself, with many others here on the board run Bassani stuff without any issues. It is very unfortunate that he had such an awful run in with this company.

NJ, are they both equal length? I would have to imagine the JBA ones are, and the FR probably arent.

Thats too bad about the Bassani mishap. I have both thier equal length 1 5/8 and Y pipe, and I hate to say...no problems and great performance.

Good luck on whichever ones you choose.

I also would highly recommend Stage 8 locking header bolts with whichever brand you choose.

Just an update to that thread, is that fedex has not picked up the y pipe and it has been three weeks. PP can only appologize and go back to doing nothing. I am pretty sure i am stuck with it as I don't have the will to keep dealing with them. I have talked to an exhaust shop who says they can make it fit. So i figure I will have them fit it to headers. I don't think the ford headers are equal lenght. My engine is stock now, but I do plan on an intake throttle body possible cam but nothing out of control, just stuff for more power and better mpg. So i guess 1.5 should be ok for what i would do. I think maybe as some sort of last ditch effort I might call proficient performance and see if maybe I am bitch my way into get headers cheap for everything they have put me through, but i doubt it. thanks for the help guys

Sounds like a good idea to call inproficient to try and get them to cut you a deal on a set of headers. Remeber, "the squeaky wheel gets the grease". Hopefully this will hold true for you in this ordeal.

I was debating between JBA headers and the Bassani ones. The stainless JBA ones are slightly cheaper than the ceramic Bassani, but on the website the JBA ones are listed as having about twice as much HP and torque gain. Should I go by those listings or are they accurate? Would stainless hold up as well as ceramic? Thanks.

But where are they rating that power? Rear wheels, or flywheel? Headers are headers for the most part. They arent rocket science, so I am always skeptical about numbers that seem disproportionate. I dont know much about the stainless, but I know ceramic is guaranteed against rust through. It also helps keep the heat in the exhaust system, and deflect it back through the rest of the system (= cooler underhood temps, =cooler air into motor, = power).

I've used both the Bassani and JBA, I had both brands of them Ceramic coated when I bought them. I can honestly say that they are both good products. I would agree with wheel though, they are both pretty similar and both shorty style so the HP is going to be pretty close. You will probably gain a little on equal length vs. standard unequals though.

Thanks for the tips. Will the Bassani headers bolt to the stock Y pipe until I can replace that?

Yeah, I think I might go JBA. I really want coated, but they are so much more money. I might have to just suck it up

I believe they are made to bolt right up to the same locations as factory, thats one of the big advantages of the shorties. You wont notice nearly the HP improvement until you open up the whole exhaust with the y pipe, free flow cat and free flow muffler with a mandrel bent 3" all the way out the back.
