Just bought the truck and can someone send me a pic of the stock locking hubs that should be on the truck.. I just filled up for the second time in 200 miles. Just figured out that my MPG is 9.333 which does not sound right...
So I engaged the 4x4 hi in the cab and the wheels were locked.
Got outside and tried to unlock them and went back in drove back for about 10 feet. Engaged the 4x4 again from the cab and they worked again????
I am assuming the guy that I bought the truck from changed them to something else. I tried looking for the Free and lock on the hubs and it is not there plus one hub is cracked the plastic on the **** to turn.
I need help here because it still is under warranty and what to make sure the guy does not pull anything funny. So I am trying to educate myself here.
And help would be appreicated...
The 4x4 will always work with the switch but the wheels wont always be engaged. The manual option is if your a super stuck, the auto takes a few feet and a few seconds to engage
Should I turn the **** to the left or right to auto? If I am looking at the hubs?
Can these be changed out to manual hubs? And if yes what is the process is it as easy as buying manual locks and install? Price?
Also there is a noise when I engage 4 low... Just while it is engaging after that no niose. is that normal.. It sounds like something is actuating?
Should you be able to hear the hubs unlock when driving backwards?
How I ensure that the hubs are unlocked out of 4X4?
All trucks with ESOF came with "auto-hubs" from the factory. Clockwise is "lock", and counter clockwise is "auto". The writing on the hubs is probably worn off. Turn your ESOF switch to "2wd" and drive the truck for at least a 1/2 mile. Then, go home and get under the front of the truck. Grab the U-joint behind each front wheel and try and turn them--if you can turn each one, they are OK--If you cannot turn one, that one might be bad, or hasn't released yet. Sometimes it takes some time for them to release, but 1/2 mile should be enough. The late (99 & up) hubs are not like the older ones--you cannot hear them click when they disengage.
You can change them out very easy. 'bout 100-150 buck for a set of Warn Hubs.
Take the big snap ring out off, and it's all down hill. Takes about 1/2 hour for the whole job.
Just went down the road and the axle on the drivers side was stilllocked and the passanger was freed.... So I am assuming I am having a problem with the hubs?
If I wanted to replace the stocks auto hubs with a aftermarket are there any out there?
