I am considering purchasing a new F350 powerstroke and have a Question about the AIC (idle controller).
I am used to the AIC on our ambulance - it doesn't kick up the idle unless you are both in park and the emergency brake is on. But there is an irritating bell that rings if the ambulance is in park without the emergency brake.
Is the warning bell part of the AIC? Will my truck have it? Can the bell (or AIC) be easily disabled?
It seems worth getting the AIC if ordering a new truck (cheaper than later), and I am used to the AIC and know why it would be useful, but if I throw in in park for a minute and don't want the engine racing, I don't need the irritating bell either...
The bell must be something that the folks that built the ambulance added to the rig to keep the driver from taking off with the park brake set. I haven't heard of any AIC having an alarm feature, and I know mine doesn't.
Thanks for the info. I assume that that other characteristics are the same - only works with the emergency brake on etc.
The dealer thinks it is a wacky option to request, but like I say I am used to it and it is easier and cheaper to add now than later. I'll put an order in in the next few days. It is my first new car (after 20+ yrs driving) so I might as well get it right!
I am also going to get my first new truck soon. I wanted the AIC but it is not offered on the Lariat package. My question is should I try to order an AIC from Ford and install myself or is there a better aftermarket AIC on the market??
If you are unable to order or didn't the AIC with your new truck (not available when ordering a Lariat) there is a dealer in TX that will sell them to you for around $325 and a few bucks shipping. That is about half of what it cost from most dealers when ordering it through the parts dep't. Here is Gene Louder's email address: whitemoco(No Email Addresses In Posts!)
Do you really have the use the emergency brake w/the AIC?
I am planning on getting an AIC because of my winch but if I have to have the parking brake on....it makes winching myself out of a hole fairly difficult
