I just got the call from Treadwell. Camshaft Position Sensor and also the Injector module. Total is about $1600.00. How bad did I take it in the shorts?

Maybe it's the CPS causing the Injector module the code!

From ITP ...
P1298 - "IDM Failure" (7.3L)
This code can be set by a low battery. Connect a battery charger, clear codes and re-run KOEO tests. If this code doesn't return, check charging system and batteries and repair as necessary. If the code returns, IDM is suspect.
Is it just me or do all stealership scavenger hunts seem to start with a CPS, IDM diagnosis....
They might have noticed a trend on the amount of comebacks after popping in a CPS and the truck got 3 blocks down the road and quit again.
After that it was "circulate a bulletin" and everyone now recommends it because of some corporate policy.
I don't know, really, just speculating.
But there is a term that we use called "pattern failure" where a weakness in the design starts to show itself after a certain amount of time from production.
It may be that they are responding to that sort of information, but we the consumers, all we are hearing is: "You need a CPS and IDM".
Changed the batteries with the last 120 days. So if I have a problem, they are within the warranty. I have 0 mechanical apptitude and I do not have any friends that have a scanner/computer for the 7.3. Maybe I need to find one. I guess I am the type of guy that keep the "stealership" service departments in business. But, I will be back on the road TODAY.

Is this the last time you have heard from the dealership? Need updates!
No, I have had work done by them before and I get a call or mail piece from them about quarterly. They are pretty good about that, I think. I used to sell cars there in the late 80's and they were really working on getting better in the service area.
