I would like to add a microswitch in the tailgate so that it will show "Door AJAR" when the tailgate is open.
Call me wierd
but since installing a wonderfull Tonneu Cover from Truxedo, I have drivven off twice already, spilling the bed's guts all over the road...
I just forget to close it, and I can't see when it is open in the RV mirror.
I need the to know what wire color/location to connect, and if I need 12V or Ground to show the message.
Wiring up a switch and a light would be pretty easy, but I don't think you would be able to actually get the Door Ajar light to come one.
Get a push pin switch like they use for your hood on a remote start or alarm system and install that so the tailgate holds it closed when the tailgate is shut. Then use that switch to turn the light on whenever the switch is open (most likely have to use a relay to do that).
there is a pink/lt blue wire under the passenger side door step plastic cover thingie.
when grounded it turns on the DOOR AJAR message and the dome light+dingdong.
I guess it comes from the door sensor and acts just as if I opened a door.
the switch wiring bit is easy, as you both said, install a NC spring release switch between the ground and that wire. then let the tailgate door push it in when it is closed.
That sounds like it should work great Eysham. Take some pictures and post them after you get done, as I am sure you are not the only person who would like to do this.
I put a microswitch on the roll-up door and a beeper in the cab on a cube-van I used to drive way back when... I would always forget to close the door and wound up with $1k's worth of parts in the road multiple times.
Will the factory alarm go off when you open the tail gate now?
I don't have a factory alarm, I have an alarm with tracking system connected to a "big brother" service - obligatory here in israel over a certain priced vehicle's inssurance.
