ABS Light flashing

Guys, need some advice.

While driving around yesterday, I started up and pulled away in a rush. My ABS light started flashing intermittently, and while driving the speedometer would continually cycle from the current speed down to 0, then go back up to the current speed, and down again.

After having stopped at the next destination, when I started up again, it has not done it again since.

I am thinking it must be the ABS sensor on its way out. Or maybe worn disk pads?

Does anybody have any ideas?

It's your VSS speed sensor mounted on the rear differential. Look at the top of the rear pumpkin. A new one can be had for $25. About 5 minutes to replace and you're good to go.

Got my VSS sensor from Napa.. they call it an ABS sensor.. go to www.napaonline.com and plug in p/n 530780. They are $10.49. Easy to replace.

ABS light flashing?

When my VSS was the ABS light culprit, it stayed lit. It wasn't flashing...
What gives?

Thanks.

Replaced it, but it did the same, the first trip after replacement. Has not done it again after that.

Is there another speedsensor on the 4WD?

The ABS flashing is the code you need, count the number of flashes and this is what is wrong with your system (start vehicle, light should go solid, then start flashing, and then stay solid). Do it two or three times to verify the number, then do a search for "ABS flashing 12 times" and you will figure this out.

Since my last post the symptoms has changed to a solid ABS light, No speedo, and a flashing O/D light flashing OFF.

I replaced the ABS sensor over the weekend, with no change in symptoms.

Tranny shifts normal, except when I decelerate it will kick back one out of O/D.

The O/D switch also do not seem to work.

I am suspecting the O/D switch, or a harnass problem.

I have ordered the AutoEnginuity Ford bundle, so I will pull the codes when I get it. Guess it is the only way to know.

Just as a side note, I have noticed what I consider torque converter slip, in DP settings 80E and 120.

Could be a broken wire in the gear selector stock, had to have mine replaced when the OD started flashing.

Sounds just like when my VSS went out. Maybe a broken wire or something?

I think I have some resolution. Yesterday I read somewhere that a bad earth on the driver side headlamp could cause the ABS light and the flashing O/D.

Interesting enough, I replaced my driverside head bulb about a week ago, because it went dim. Thought it was the bulb.

Then last night the new bulb went dim too, and I figured it can be a bad earth.

When I got home, I touched around on the headlamp harnass, looking for a bad connection.

So this morning when I started up, the ABS light and flashing O/D is gone, and the dim bulb is bright again.

This weekend I will look for, and try to correct the earth.

How does the headlight earth affect the abs light? I think I may be having this problem also bacause my turn signals are not working either... I have a new vss to put in anyways but I dont think it is going to fix the problem.

My symtoms are abs light, no turn signals, no speedo which leads to flashing od light. Ill have to check my headlight to see if it is dim but I dont think it is...
