I have a 2001 F250 4x4. Looking at Bilstein's online catalog, they list two different shocks for the F250 -> w/FX4 and w/o FX4. How can I tell if my truck has the FX4 option? It has "4x4 OFF ROAD" stickers on the sides of the bed.
the "FX4" option was not available in 2001 but it is pretty much the same thing as the "off road" package so i would tell them yes. there is nothing in either package that would make the shocks different (that i can think of) so its odd that they are asking that
4X4 Off-Road package and FX4 Off-Road package are esentially the same thing. The 4X4 Off-Road name was used thru 2002. In 2003 it was renamed the FX4 Off-Road package.

Why would it matter if the truck was an FX4 or regular 4x4? Either way they should take the same shocks. Because the only thing the FX4 (off road 4x4) had over the non-FX4 (regular 4x4) is the added skid plates, Limited Slip rear axle, and the "FX4" bedside decals.
Look under your truck for 2 skid plates; 1 covering the fuel tank and 1 covering the transfer case. If you have the skid plates, it is probably an 'off road' 4x4. If no skid plates, then its a standard 4x4.
