Just curious, on a 2006 xlt 4x4 (fx4) powerstroke what did the fx4 package include? Were all 4x4 xlts an fx4? I know on some rangers f150s 250s exc that you could by an fx4 package with higher gears and different shocks. In 2006 what was different about an fx4 f250?
On my 03 it included skid plates and stickers. It could only be ordered with 4 wheel drive. There could have been other items included but this is a start.

My fancy stickers were removed by the PO. I like it that way.
I have manual hubs and transfer. All terrain tires were not part of the package.
Gotcha I've been building new 2015's on the Ford site, as I'm about to order one, and the FX4 package includes SOF now (which I hate) as well as hill descent control.
For the average driver, about the only real advantage of the FX4 package is the limited slip dif. Otherwise, it's a sales tactic.
If you want to increase off-road capability, you could add the stuff yourself, do a better job with better parts, and have a better truck.
I had an FX4 Ranger. The limited slip was good, but plenty of non-FX4 Rangers came with 4.10's.
The FX4 Package was more or less a clever marketing scheme to get a few more bucks out of Ford truck buyers. Who wants a boring truck that just says "4X4 Off-Road" on it?
You want something that sounds like it means business, sounds mean, tough, and like it makes your truck perform better off road. Hence the "FX4 Off-Road" Package.
Introduced late 2002 on the F150 and later the Super Duties for the 2003 MY, it included:
-Rancho branded shocks (junk)
-Skid plates for the fuel tank and transfer case
-Steering stabilizer
-A fancy FX4 sticker so everybody knows your truck is tougher than the normal 4x4.
It came at a premium even though the Rancho branded shocks were junk, but it was one of those things that people thought "Eh, stickers look cool and it must perform better with those Rancho shocks, so whatever".
It's not until you replace the shocks with either Bilstein's or anything aftermarket that you get a better ride and better suspension perofrmance.
