I did the CCV mod and don't like how the truck has smoke and odor coming out from underneath when idling.
Has anyone tried building a trap to catch the solids (oil) and routing the breather hose back in front of the turbo? I'm thinking about inserting it in the end of my 6637 so it will pull the smoke and odor into the motor. Perhaps a 6" long piece of 3" PVC with the inlet 2" below the top and the outlet to the 6637 in the top cap? Also thinking of getting fancy and installing a drain plug on the bottom to keep her drained.
Thats an interesting idea. You could try putting a T between the filter and intake hose and running a piece of pipe straight down and hooking the ccv hose into that. If the air flowing through the vertical piece of pipe is low enough, the oil might collect in the bottom of it. I've got a picture in my head of what it looks like....but dont have time to draw it up. Maybe after work...
That sounds like a cool idea. Personally, I've never liked the idea of just venting all that into the atmosphere, so maybe you're onto something. How about a filter somewhere, to trap all the solids and keep the boots clean, then still route the air back into the intake? Keep us posted!
There's several of us running trap canisters something like this:http://guzzle.rbmicro.com/ccv1.html
My canister has the vent plumbed back into the intake. Cleans up most of the oil and eliminates the fumes.
Sound like a great idea. I haven't done the ccv mod to my truck because I don't want the smell while working on it in my shop. Keep us posted.
Reps to you Kevin.
if you run the CCV in the end of the 6637...it will suck all the oil out of the motor...look in the intake tube...notice the nipple faces the filter..blowing the air in the tube...that is so it will not suck out oil..

I've been running my ccv pointed downstream in the intake for over a year, hasn't sucked the oil out of the motor yet........................

stuck in the end of the filter??? i got the stuff to do this when i did the mod..i was going to turn the adapter with the nipple around...when i asked.. i understood the reason the nipple was facing up wind ..was too keep the oil from being sucked out...if what you say is true ..i want to run mine that way...

Just downstream of the filter. Sucking the oil out of the engine is total BS. I drain less than a half pint of oil out of my trap canister in 10,000 miles.
is yours back in the factory hook up in the intake??..i asked way back when..cant remember who told me now..but i was going to run into the stock location after a trap..i was told to restrictive..i then said what if i turn the niple around and was told it would suck out too much oil....hmmmm

Virtually none of my intake is factory, at least for the 7.3.
