Question Chip for diesel

Would a chip for a 7.3 diesel help the MPG? What are the pros and cons for a chip?

Thanks

It can help with mileage a little if you keep your foot out of it. Drive slow, keep RPM's under 2000 and you'll get the best mileage. With a chip, power is added so that temptation to use it is always there.

Other than that, enjoy it. I will never drive my truck stock again after adding a chip. For the 7.3L's, get DP-Tuner (www.dp-tuner.com). It's one of the best ones out for these trucks.

A chip will not help mileage because once you get it you wont be able to keep your foot out of it

As pocket said if you do have enough disipline to keep your foot out of it I can say you will get better mileage!
Go dp-tuner you wont regret it!

My 7.3 got 13.2 MPG towing my boat (400 miles, mostly highway) when stock. After exhaust, Tymar, and DP Tuner it now gets 15.6 MPG on 60 HP tow setting, and 17.2 MPG on 80 HP econo setting. EGT's are great...

I have to admit it is hard to see much difference in MPG when driving around town, as a result of too much playing and not enough willpower to stop playing

OK, now I'm confused!! I went to the DC Tuner site, but when I clicked on 7.3L I got several things to pop up! My 1999 diesel has a hand held thing that you plug in under the dash and program. Can someone link me to what I need for this 2003 and how to install it?

Thanks so much!!

On the main DP-Tuner page, click on the link for "Ford 7.3L Tuning". The page that comes up gives you several options. If you want the DP-Tuner chip, click the link for "F5 1-16 chip (Diesel) and related items (5)", it's the picture of the chip on the upper right. The next page at the top describes the F5 chip, click the button on the right that says "Options". As you scroll down you'll see a bunch of drop boxes, from there you can customize your chip with any set of tunes you want, up to 16 different ones. Here's the link: http://www.shop.dp-tuner.com/product.sc?categoryId=5&productId=1

When you place your order, you're going to need the code off the PCM. Instructions can be found here: http://www.dp-tuner.com/Documentation/DP-Tuner%20PCM%20Code.pdf

Also don't forget to order the Remote Switcher. You have 3 color choices to pick from.

Once you get everything set up and ordered, you need to submit your vehicle information form so that Jody and Diane will have the proper information for tuning your truck. This form can be submitted via email for faster processing: http://www.dp-tuner.com/vehicle%20information%20form.pdf

On the left side of their web site are some quick links. Check out the Product Documentation page for instructions on using the F5 chip as well as other great information to help you get started.

Hope this helps and happy shopping.
