Does anyone have any experience with the purchase of replacement Battery Cables that somewhat match the originals. I have looked at several sites. They are not very descriptive if they offer any at all and the local parts stores do not have much other than the cheesy ones with the aluminum crimped on eyes. I hate to order cables only to get the same things I can get locally for less.
If you have an Atwoods, or some similiar farm/tractor supply store, check there. I know the Atwoods here has a wicked awesome selection of premade battery terminals with nice crimped on battery ends and nice terminated ends to go to a starter solenoid, for a ground. Available in red or black in several different lengths.
Go to your favorite parts house. They usually all carry a good selection of cables. Are you looking for something in particular?

I guess I thought that maybe someone out there may have found a place to get some high quality cables that looked like they belonged on a truck of this vintage. That were available online. And specific to application. I may have been dreaming LOL. It sounds like Atwoods maybe the place to go.
I had not thought of Atwoods , but now that you mention it I don't know why did not think of it.
Thanks, Bill
Original battery cables have been reproduced for 1950's/60's Galaxies, Torino's, Falcon, & Fairlanes.
These are identical in appearance to what your truck came with new.
dearbornclassics.com - catalog, page 145.
Because the cables aren't listed for trucks, I'll have to see which ones will be correct for length. My car & truck parts catalogs will tell me that. Will post here in this thread what I find.
The cables are sold in sets, 1 positive, 1 negative cable.
But first: I need you to tell me the engine size and the year of your truck.

The Positive battery cable to the starter relay is 16 inches long.
The Negative battery cable is 32 inches long.

Bet there are plenty of red & black cables available in the parts houses in those lengths and different sizes.
Once, just the ground cable was red, t'other was black or woven steel.
Once there were no cables at all...woven steel straps were used.
Once, there were no batteries, vehicles used magnetos.
6 volt cables are thicker than 12 volt cables.
I wonder how many ppl here are using 12 volt battery cables on a 6 volt vehicle?
I wonder how many people hear aware any of that? I am aware of the difference in the 6 and 12 volt cables, and have seen and replaced the steel woven cables as far as the colors go, other than red for positive and black for negative I am not sure of the reason for the other colors. Not that it matters, what about a positive ground system, do they still use red for positive? Better yet did ford use a positive ground system? If so on what? Just some food for thought.
Bill's dandruff level gets high sometimes, and he types a lot of great nonsense when in the information overload zone.

I thought about mentioning how entertaining this site is as well as informative but the last thing I wanted to do is get somebody's dandruff up LOL!!!!
LMC TRUCK has replacement battery cables in various lenths. I suspect these would look very close to oem. Prices seem to be reasonable. www.lmctruck.com I've had very good luck with these guys. Brett
