Hi everyone,
I am new to this forum and I hope I am in the right place, I own a 2002 F350 with 7.3L powerstroke engine, the engine has done just over 108tho miles and I am not sure how well it has been looked after in the past, as I had it imported into the U.K. just under a year ago. In the last month the engine cuts out when it is idleing and the engine managment light on the dash comes on, if the truck is moving on the road and the revs are higher than idle it goes through the problem and sometimes the managment system light will come on but not always. I am in the process of locating filters but that is easyer said than done in the U.k. I have tried to get a check on the managment system but it seems that ford wont release the software to the U.K.
thanks in anticipation to a reply,
Steve
Is it down on power or anything? Tough to say without being able to pull codes.
And kudos for driving one of these in the UK! I have enough trouble parking in Denver!
A big welcome to you.. I had similar problems with my 99 and it turned out to just a loose 9 pin plastic connector with is located under each of your valve covers.. Being under the cover in all the hot oil, the two small plastic locking tabs that hold the connector together just warps and separates allowing some of the terminals to loose conact. These 9 wires connect to your glow plugs and injectors.. It would be important to have the fault codes read, using a scanner that is compatible to our 7.3L powestroke. If you read a P1316 code, it would indicate the above problem.. If this is the problem, you just remove the valve covers and push together the connector and i just slipped a 1/16" thick shim (1.6 mm thick shim) behind the locking tabs.. or.. ford sells a plastic clip that goes over the connector to fix the problem.. See my gallery for a pic of the loose connector....and a pic of my homemade shim.
ps: While you have the covers off, carefully inspect the harness wiring for shorts and area that maybe rubbing on moving parts. (you can reuse the valve cover gaskets)

Welcome British Bulldog,
you may want to get in touch with ITP Diesel via their web site www.ITPdiesel.com and talk to Dennis(the owner) about getting an Auto Enginuity set up( with the advanced Ford bundle) for your computer. Then you will be able to run all the tests the Ford shops can run and will be able to self diagnose problems. I think the software runs around $400 USD. Dennis could also ship you the filters you are needing(although that would probably be super expensive) Drop him an email he is a very easy guy to work with.
