I was driving my bosses f550 with a 7.3, and while towing a loaded 40' flatbed of hay, it started bloing white smoke and lost all power and had almost no pedal feel. It wouldnt even go past 2500 RPM. Then, all of a sudden, it started billowing black, and BOOM backfired and shot flames out the exhaust. Then, I pulled over at a parts store and replaced the fuel filter, which helped for a while, but then it started blowing white smoke again. Once I limped it home and unhooked it, I took it out and let her rev a bit and it seemed to stop blowing smoke, but it still has less than the normal power it used to have. It has 226000 miles and is completely stock. What the hell?
Sounds to me like you have an injector that is dumping fuel. We encounter lots of white smoke in the Duramax world that turns out to be stuck open injectors.
The white smoke is unburned fuel.....highly atomized unburned fuel. Just get a spark and ba-boom!!!
As ive been driving it more it doesnt ever seem to blow any smoke whatsoever now. It used to puff a bit every time you shifted (its a manual) but ever since its been lacking power, it doesnt do this. Could this be a IP?
You were ever able find out the promblem of your truck, same situation here
This is a very old thread. You may want to start a new thread on here in this forum, (99-03 7.3psd forum) and explain what your issues are. Be as specific as possible, and include as much information about your truck as possible too. Mileage, year, any modifications, etc.
