hey guys , need a little help with my backup lights, i just installed my aux lights to the round plug in the back of my truck black/green wire in the center., and ....................... NO lights. so i went got my DMM and i get 0v on the center pin which is reverse light, truck was off and in reverse.
now do i need brake controler for it to work? or what? i get 12v running lights and thats it.
my 4 pin plug does not have reverse.
Pete, check your fuse, as well as your connection, I just went under my truck to confirm, it is the black with green stripe, those reveasre light come from the truck not the aux brake control
Depending on the year of your truck...you should have a main power box under the hood on the driver's side. In there you also need to make sure you put in the relay/fuse for the backup lights to the trailer connector. There are locations for the trailer brakes, trialer lights etc there too, and I think a couple of spots in the fuse panel under the dash.
thanks guys, i just looked . i have fuse in there but i think the relay 38 which is in separate box its not there. i have 2 boxes next to fuse panel under hood, one has 2 relays those are i think for ESOF, the other one has 2 empty places thats trailer backup lamps and trailer charging system, please let me know if this is correct.
now what type of relay do i need , and where to get it.
thanks again for help all of you guys.....................
#4, 20amp fuse/relay...ignition has to be on. And yes...reverse is an option. Even with the trailer package, the most you will get standard is the running lights, turn and brake. the 12v charge for campers and reverse are options. If you got the factory brake controller, then that will be set up, but if you use an aftermarket controller, and hook it to the factory harness to the light plug on the back, you still have to put in the relay/fuses for brake controller, reverse lights and 12v charge.
Sorry Pete, cant tell you anymore then I too have extra relay boxes, and they have fuses....Auto Zone should be able to set you up with the relay ( or any like place) good luck, and lets us know.
thanks, guys. i have load of relays. but dont know if they fit. i dont want to slap one in there turn the truck on put it in reverse and Fubar somthing up LOL.

The relays/fuses look just like large fuses. If you look in your manual, you will find the diagram of both power boxes, and what goes where. Just go to the Ford dealer. The stuff is cheap. Even the harness to wire to an aftermarket controller is only about $15.
