Need Higher Compression

What compression ratio can I expect?

Using a stock 240 head and stock '76 300 block and pistons (8.5:1 approx)
How much would this head up the compression- Maybe 1 point?
How much if I milled .060" of the stock 300 head?
Help, need more HP

What about using a thinner head gasket? You wouldn't need much to bump it a point or two.

Need Higher Compression

You need to have the ratio for the 240, ok, the cubic inch difference between the 240 and the 300 is 60 cubic inches divided by six = 10 cubic inches per cylinder. If the 240 had an 8.0 to 1 ratio that means that instead of comrpessing 40 cubic inches you are now compressing 50 cubic inches into that same volume head. Your combustion chamber volume in this senerio is 5 cubic inches. So, add 10 cubic inches to that and that would mean that you are compressing 50 cubic inches into a 5 cubic inch combustion chamber you will have a ratio of 10.0 to 1.
