Jack, I think the relatively low price was due to the modification [for clearance] where the intake and exhaust manifolds were designed to join. I would love to have one of these manifolds, due to my very conservative driving style and quest for higher gas mileage. The modification would interfere with mounting a plate for heating the underside if one was using EFI exhaust manifolds, headers or original log style manifold.
Ones I have attempted to get in the past went for as high as $350, with some in the $275 range. I drool when I read where someone finds one at the local pull-a-part and pays perhaps $25 for an "original" intake manifold for a Ford six cylinder engine!
To call the Edelbrock intake a "performance intake" is somewhat of a misnomer. It was developed to improve fuel economy at a time when the Arab oil embargo and 70 mpg carburetor claims were rampant. So if you want to define "performance" as improved part-throttle distribution and low end efficiency then yeah, it is a performance intake. I would be surprised if WOT dyno power numbers were significantly better than a stock cast iron intake.
