I just bought a truck and im going to be changing the fluids in the tranny, tcase and front/rear diff.
Im going to be using royal pruple. And ive decided to run 75W140 in the front and rear diff. But i am unsure what i should be running in the tranny and transfer case. The tranny is a ZF 5 Speed. The truck is a 1993 Ford F-250. If anybody can help me figure out what oils i should be using that would be great. Also what is a good place to fnd out how much oil i need?
The tranny and transfer case take ATF. Royal Purple should have a suitable product. If you were in a hotter climate, I would try synchromesh fluid. RP makes a good one. For ATF, I still like non-friction-modified fluids like Type F in manual trannys for smoother shifting.
6.8 pints for the ZF
Synthetic is recommended in the service manual for outside air temperatures below -25F or above 100F.
2.1 quarts for the transfer case without PTO, 6.1 quarts with PTO.
