I need to do an oil/ATF/transfer case/etc. job on the ride. The car parts stores around here are getting progressively lamer -- is it worth shopping online for this kind of stuff? I imagine that shipping would eat me alive, but...I thought I'd ask.
If your local stores don't have what you need, go to your local oil distributor. They will sell retail over the counter by the case. Not that you can't get good oil shopping online. But it's generally brands that you wouldn't see in your local stores and way more expensive.
I agree. Exactly what are you looking for in an oil, that even an independent "Mom-N-Pop" Auto Parts Store would not stock?
Unless your parts stores only stock SAE 30 HD, 40HD, 50HD, 10w40 and 20w50 oil, when no emission controlled engine specifies this viscosity since 1979, then I can see your dilemma?
