when you say you cleaned the ground cable did you mean at the batt. or starter or both?

did you check engine to ground straps?

you never said where you got the atarter.

I buy most all my parts from napa, never had a problem with the quality from them.

They make a repair/renew kit for the spade connector on the starter, maybe you should try that. But if you don't live where they use road salt that may not be the problem. Does that connector look clean inside and click on tight?

Try measuring the voltage drop between the positive battery terminal and the starter positive connection when the key is turned to start (two person job) next time the truck doesn't start. Also test the voltage drop from the engine block to the negative battery terminal with someone turning the key to start. If there's more than a volt drop between ends on either the positive cable or the negative cable, you've got a bad connection or a bad cable.

I would use a clamp meter and test the amps drawn by the starter when it does start, and then again when it won't start.
(two person job)

If the amount of amps drawn is significantly higher when it won't start the problem is the starter.

If no amps are drawn, or very little draw is shown on the meter when it doesn't start, the problem is elsewhere.
