02 alternator question.

i picked up an 02 F250 stretch cad shortbox 4X4 diesel 2 weeks ago. every morning, until the engine warms up, the battery light flickers, from a barley on to almost full on.
it does this every time the engine is cold, for about 3 minutes till it gets to operating temps.

does this sound like an alternator that is getting ready to fail, or am i just being picky??

I would guess the brushes are sticking/worn in the alternator. It could also be a bad solder joint or connector somewhere in the alt, that swells up when warm and then makes a good connection. You could do the old "take it apart and put it back together" trick on the alternator and it might fix a bad connection.

You could also just swing by the local auto parts store. Most can test the alternator without having to pull it from your truck. The alternator in my 02 started to go 3 months ago.
