Stopped to get fuel yesterday and my '02 Expedition (5.4 liter) took 5 tries to finally turn over. No clicking noise- just the engine struggling. Hooked up to battery tester when I got home and it was fine as was the alternator. Went out later last night and it did the same thing except this time the headlights flashed. Today ALL of the gauges "pegged" when I started it but it did start the 1st time- but rather lethargic. Tried to set the alarm at work and it wouldn't set. Any suggestions are welcome.
Battery is 4 years old from the code on the side (4/07) .It was hooked to a Black and Decker Battery Charger and Tester. It tests the alternator as well. Connectors were cleaned yesterday. When the charger was hooked up today again to recheck- it was at 50% and is charging now. Thank you for your help.

I'm not sure of what you are saying here: You turned the key five different times before the starter motor actually tried to crank the engine? Or are you saying that each time you turned the key the starter motor engaged and cranked the engine, but the engine didn't start running until the 5th try?
I'm not familiar with your B&D Battery Charge & Testor and how it performs its tests. (How many amps does it put out when in the charge mode?)
After the vehicle sits for several hours, how many volts is the battery showing?
While the starter motor is cranking the engine, how low does the battery voltage go?
And after the engine starts and you rev it to 1500+ rpm, how many volts is the battery reading?
After replacing the plugs, PCV valve, O-rings the stuttering, hesitating, trouble accelerating has continued. Finally threw P0171 code and was told it might be air intake mainfold by AAMCO. Then service engine soon light started blinking. Thought it could possibly be EGR, MAF sensor although it appeared clean, or DPFE. Any suggestions? Thanks.
