Help on Box Removal?

My front fuel pump is burned up and I want to replace it. My uncle said he'd help me, but I want to pull the box off before I go over there to save us the hassle of dropping the box. I have an impact gun so I can get the bolts off. Is there an easy way to do this? It's a 96 long bed. Is there 8 bolts? And how do I disconnect the wiring to the tail lights and trailer brakes? Thanks in advance,
John

If you got your mind made up to remove the bed....
There should be a wiring connector near the rear to disconnect the taillights.
Don't forget to disconnect the fuel filler tubes... 3 screws on each behind the fuel door.
6 bolts attaching the bed to the frame.. the nuts may be hard to get at, and the bolts will spin if the bed is rusted. You'll have to weld nuts on top of the bolts if this happens, cutting the head off won't help because the upper portion of the bolt has a shoulder and it won't drop through the frame. The bolts are expensive to buy from Ford, and should be replaced with grade 8 bolts otherwise.
You'll need at least 2 people to lift the bed off with the tailgate removed, or a hoist of some type, you have to get it high enough to clear the rear bumper.

For comparison , the tank is held up with 2 strap and there are only fastenes on 1 side. The straps are relatively cheap to buy at a parts store should you have to cut them off, and even if the tank is full it can be lowered with a floor jack enough to disconnect the fuel lines and electrical connector.

I would for sure drop the tank before I would fool with the bed. But if you are going to yank the bed, don't use an impact. The bolts rely on the bed floor to keep them from turning and an impact is more likely to strip that out.

If your bed is super solid . Go for removal and oil it down before reinstall. I have seen more than 1 bed get trashed on removal . Spray bolts down several times.

I drop the tanks my self as around the straps is where they like to rust . And yes they can look good and rust . Later

Get 4 guys to help lift off.

K so I'm probably just going to drop the tank. I live in the rust belt, and even though my truck is clean, I probably do have some rust on the straps... So is there just a bolt or something holding the strap on? It looked like a pain get off, but I will look again. And what is a good pump? I was thinking about just getting the Motorcraft/ Bosch (Whichever was factory)

Definitly get the Motorcraft pump from a dealer , worth it's weight in gold, you only want to do this job once.
