just picked up my 00 f-350 v10 last week and havent even drove it a hundred miles and tonight while driving i experienced a loud popping noise from the front left of the truck. i did a quick roadside inspection and limped it a mile to my house where i parked it and started to look into but decided to wait till morning so its light out.. anyone got any suggestions what to look at, when i applied the brakes it would get real quiet but otherwise it wise real loud even at low speeds (10-15) and it stopped about 200' from my driveway.. any help would be appreciated.
also the truck has 80k on the clock, and im currently running 16.5 eagle alloys with 33x 12.5 bfg mt's...

Do you have automatic hubs? (if its a 4x4) I had an issue with a vacuum switch on my old 250 that let the hubs engage part way.....Made a LOUD popping noise when it happened.
its a 4 wheel drive and it has the manual hubs, with the floor shift lever... i tried engaging and disengaging the hubs when it happend but made no difference..
OK, good job on the hubs. That eliminates the hubs as a source of the noise.
I'm guessing your ball joints are gone. Tomorrow, jack up a front wheel. Grab the wheep top and bottom and try to move the top and bottom in and out. If you get movement on that plane, your ball joints are in need of replacement.
well i got bored around midnight and it kept bothering me thinking about it so i got a work light out and got the carhartts on and braved the elements. i had to use the dang truck jack as mine is at a buddys garage and i jacked her up.. then i found the problem.. i just switched the wheels last week and have maybe put a 100 miles on it as i drive a beater to commute to work and i checked the lug nuts last week after my first 50 miles and they were good. well i went to check the movement on the ball joint and sure enough all 8 lugs were loose! luckily the wheel didnt get damaged really and it happend at low speeds.. i checked all four and the rest were still snug and i checked both sides anyways for ball joint movement and they were tight.. wow i feel like the biggest dink right now for that one, i should of known to check as soon as it happened...
thanks for the help though you folks are awesome and im definately going to stick around this forum
i got real real lucky, no damage that i saw, i will be taking these wheels and tires back off right around thanksgiving day to put the winter wheels and tires on to get ready for the snow so ill get a better inspection of it then in the light. ill probally only drive it a couple times in between now and then... heck i almost had heart failure when i found that was whats wrong with it and just glad i was just putting when it happend and not going 65 on the highway...
