I have a Single In/Dual Out Original 40 setup on my 99 4.6L. It has good tone but its not quite loud enough for me. I looked into the 10 Series Flowmaster for a true dual setup, Ive heard these were louder, but are they legal since its intended for race use, I live in NC so if any of you can help it would be appreciated.
single chamber mufflers are loud as crap. a kid at my school had one on his 150 with a 302 and it had a single 3" system that dumped under the cab and it had a real throaty rumble at idle and it got louder than crap when he got on it. when i get a new exhaust system that is what im going to run.
I'd hope they're loud, they're made of race cars. I don't think its the Flowmaster mufflers thats not making my truck that loud, I think it's Ford's GENIUS engineers who decided that trucks need 4 catalytic converters.

a hammer, 4 pieces of straight pipe, a welder and something to beat on will solve that problem.
Unfortunely ChevymaniaFord can't do that here in NC it has to pass a Sniffer test.
ChevymaniaFord I would check with the DMV enforcement who knows what will be legal for your year truck.
I know messing with the cats is illegal, funny how they can tell you what to do with your car, but anways the 10 Series mufflers should be legal correct? Alto of guys run them here in Greenville, NC
Cats are still on, but I'm fairly sure its illegal not to have a muffler in NC, especailly with the new computer testing.
Well, in that case, here's what you do. Get out your welder, and get a section of exhaust pipe. Get some sheet metal. Weld up an oval "muffler" looking case for part of the exhaust pipe. Instant muffler.
I know alot of people that run no muffler on their Ford trucks and still pass sniffer test and inspection. They still have both cats though. It sounds like you have some kind of muffler still on it. The muffler doesn't do anything for emissions. Those short race flows are not street legal. Whether or not you can get away with it is a different story. Most likely it will never be an issue. That setup sounds really good.
