What is my flash?

I don't know what flash my 07 has. How do I find out or is there a way for someone on here to tell me. I bought the truck in June of 07 and the dealer had the trucks since October of 06. My truck does not buzz after shutdown.

I am asking because if my truck sits overnight with temperatures in the 20's and I start it without plugging it in it starts rough, it almost sounds like it misses for a few seconds. This is my first winter with a diesel so I am not sure if the rough start in that temperature is normal of if there might be a striction issue.

Thanks for your help.

First off run some thinner oil in the winter, I ran the 10w-30 motorcraft in the past, Im now using 5w-40 synthetic all year around.

Hopefully someone else can chime in about the flash.

yea I am running Motorcraft 15w-40 I am prolly going to swith to synthetic Rotella 5w-40 when I hit 10k miles which is 4k miles away.

Also my truck makes a fast clicking noise before I start it and it stops when the coil light on the dash goes out. There is no noise at shutdown though.

i changed my oil at 1500 miles, then at 4500 miles and I am not due to do my next one until 9500 miles. My first 2 I did at short intervals and I will be doing 5000 mile intervals. The oil that is in it now is about a month and a half old with about 1100 miles on it.

That sounds good on the oil changes, I still hear from some people that change in 10,000 mile intervals and wonder why there always losing injectors and such...

Its hard to say for sure unless you have a scan tool or a tuner to tell you. If your truck dosent 'buzz' dosent mean you have the newest one. you might have an older one before the buzz or inductive heat flash. your best bet is pay your 100 bucks and bring it to the stealership to make sure you have the latest flash
Check that, just reread your post. sounds like you have plenty of warrenty still, I beleave it dosent cost you anything to update the flash if you have warrenty.
Im sure someone will correct me if im wrong

this dealership near me is real bad, so I really hope there is another way to find out. This dealer charges 170 for an oil change plus tax, I think that kind of shows the type of dealership they are.

come on somebody's got to know. I know I don't have the buzz flash so is it even possible to have the flash that was before the buzz flash. Because if the buzz flash was introduced a year ago then that would mean I would have the newest flash. Anyone know when the buzz flash first came out

Seems like it came out early this year but was short lived, I have not been flashed since summer 06 so I am due for an update soon

My dealer charges for a reflash if that is all you want, if you complain of a problem then they will do it under warranty.

If you have an 07 with that few miles on it and you're having cold start issues already then you need to take it in. It shouldn't cost you a penny with that few miles on it. 15w40 is perfectly acceptable down to 10*F, especially if your truck has the current flash. I suppose an 07 might not have it depending on production date.

see I don't even know if it is really a problem(this is my first diesel) it is just rough for the initial startup and and the first like 2 seconds. It will do a quick rev up right when it starts and then it might stumble a little for a second or two then it idles normal just loud.
