First, I have a 04 EB Expedition. Sometimes when I start the truck, it wants to keep cranking and not start. I was told this could be vapor lock. (not sure) It does it when its hot or cold. My father told me to turn key on 2 or 3 times to pump some fuel to the injectors and this works. Does anybody know of any fix or solutions to solve this problem so I'm able to start the truck on the first try. Thanks for any help.....
Im not sure, but I think the key is an electronic key... so try cranking, if it does not work, shut it off, pull the key wait a second, then replace and try again. Or just shut it off, leave the key in and wait a second then try again.
I havent had that problem before with me EXPO, but I have with other cars.

That usually means that it is taking too long to build up proper fuel pressure. This is usually caused by a restricted/clogged fuel filter (a maintenance item) or by a weak fuel pump or a pump with a leaky check valve.
I'd suggest a new fuel filter as a first step and see if it solves your problem.
If not and you still have the same symptom, you'll have to have someone look at it and measure your fuel pressure.
If it were a problem with the anti-theft system and the keys, the THEFT light would be flashing at you while you're trying to start it, a symptom you didn't mention (or perhaps didn't observe).

Steve
I have the same problem with our Expy. It has happened since it had about 20,000 miles on it. Took it into the dealer and they said they could not reproduce the problem. It is getting worse. If you turn the key and then turn it off, a few times it will start. It is getting to be a pain in the butt. I always figured that eventually, what ever it is will go out and then I can get it fixed. Still starting on the second or third try, so I guess it will just keep going.
Hook a fuel pressure gauge to the fuel rail and see if it can hold its pressure when you shut the engine off. As Steve said, its prolly gonna be a bad check valve in the fuel pump or you might have a leaky fuel injector(s).
When it acts up, how much fuel do you have in the tank?
If you shut it off, will it imediately restart?

MY wife drove her 2002 expy to work yesterday(running fine) and when she came out to leave it would not start. I brought it home on the dolly last night. I was thinking fuel delivery problem, because there was no fuel coming to the throttle body, but when I crank it, the theft light is flashing. Is this a problem with my key(I only have one, the other was lost)? And, would a key problem cause me to not get fuel?
If possibly a key problem, can they check it at the dealership?
Are you all parked facing downhill, with very little gas in the tank? My 2000 won't start under these conditions until I get her facing uphill. This is a design flaw with the pickup line inside the fuel tank on my Epedition.
I have the same problem on my 03 expy....Ford dealer tried to put new relays in it...didn't fix it...said next step would be IAC valve replacement...took it in for that...they didn't fix that...but decided to check my fuel pump...of course said I needed a new fuel pump...wanted about $800.00 to replace that...took it to someone else before I did that, and he said nothing wrong with my fuel pump, that was just the way some Fords were...he said it would have to be way worse before he'd replace the fuel pump....anyhow...that was about 2 years ago and I still haven't had to replace the fuel pump..(knock on wood)...but it still has the problem..
My wife's 99 Navigator is having the same problem again. I read before that it might be the key so we switched to our spare and it was OK for a couple weeks, this morning its doing it again. I just had her crank it and check for the theft light, she said it came on but didn't flash while she cranked it. Is there a way to disable the factory alarm? Some trucks (jeeps) if you unlock it at the rear gate it will disable the alarm...just wondering if Ford did something similiar or a fuse to pull?
