Have a 92 with a 5.8l that all of a sudden decided not to start. It has spark and pressure at the fuel rail but will not fire.It will fire if I shoot some fuel in the plentum but only for that amount of fuel.I do notice though the fuel pumps both f+r keep running when the ignition is on.It seems the injecters are not working for some reason.Any help would be appreciated.
both pumps running on and on with key on is a sign of a bad ecu.
Is there any way of checking the ecu?
Since I have fuel at the injecters and none of it getting into the engine I do not think it whould be a relay. It would have to be what's controlling the injecters.
im still having this problem... if you let yours prime for a while will it start?
i must let mine prime every morning atleast 1 - 2minutes...
i think its a bad chek valve in the fuel pump becuase after it starts.. when there is fuel in the line and i shut it off and put it in ON position it doesnt take that long to prime maybe about 5 secs?
somepeaple say its the ECU but i chek for codes and it didnt give me any .. so im leaning on the fuel pump chek valve ,,
a way to chek for leaks is that start it... if it starts then shut it off see if it stay with pressure on the fuel rail.. if the pressure slowly drops you may have a leak in the system, but where you ask... well im still trying to figure it out... before i change a fuelpump

Well my question was directed at "madbob9" for the most part.
I agree, your problem looks to be a check valve not doing what its supposed to going on what you've described.
Yes,I just did the push the valve squirt test.Don't have the proper gauge and fitting. It seemed to have a good amount of pressure. But can I tell the difference between 20 and 40psi.No.
Since it has a pump per tank and both would not go bad at the same time and the filter was replaced, what would imped fuel pressure if that was the case?
Besides the regulator that is.

I found no other pump in my system besides the tank pumps.I traced each line. The only thing I could not see was I'm sure is the pressure reg.that is tucked back between the plenum and firewall.
I did find if I left the ignition on for a while the fuel pump relay would start clicking rapidly and then I would hear faint clicks possibly coming from the injectors.
Trying to start it after that it seemed like a very small amount of fuel was injected into the motor. But it did not come close to starting.
