Would Rhoades lifters make a difference in climbing hills? My 240 F100 tends to bog down going up steep hills in 4th with my NP435, the speed limit is 50 but when I'm in 4th rpm's drop to under 2000 and I lose acceleration. I down shift to 3rd but the truck is nearing its redline to keep the 50mph limit. I have a 270 duration cam and Holley 390. Evan, did you ever install these in your trucks?
Rhoades Lifers are what are known has "Controlled bleed down" lifters. These work pertty good in a street engine that has to big of a cam in it. Because the lifter cannot fully pump up, your engine thinks it has a smaller cam, making the engine more streetale.
How they are made is that an small grove is machined inside the lifter under the cup. This grove allows oil to pass and stops the lifter from "pumping" up at low rpm's. As engine speed increases the oil pressure becomes great enough as to fully pressurize the lifter and you get the full lift from your cam.
Installing these on your engine is going to have the oppisite effect of what your going for. Most F-150'a with the I6 came with a rather weak 2.75 rear end. I would suggest gong to a 3.50 or better. You need more torque and using the 3.50 should get you there.
