hey guys, my 79 f150 with the 300 needs its clutch adjusted again. but before i go ahed and make another adjustment, i have a question from last time i did this. the push rod that you see in the pic, the end where the arrow is, how is that suposed to be? last time i adjusted the cluth, this rod poped off with the slightest of ease, it didnt appear that it snaped off because the end was smooth. is it supposed to be just resting on that plate? it seems really weak to me for it to be like that, although it has never poped out while driving. or is that rod supposed to be cast or welded to that plate as part of a whole piece?
That's how it is suppose to be. I haven't seen that in along time. How is the spring? Did you replace it lately? I think the spring keeps tension on the rod and plate/fork.
i didnt replace the spring last time, i have a new one for this time around, my clutch pedal will return part way, then all the way about 5 seconds later, but when it is adjusted properly it returns all in one motion, ill throw the new spring on anyway though.
I really can't tell in the picture (it is a little blurry) but it doesn't look like your
"Crayon" is on your adjustment rod, I have posted on a couple clutch adjustment threads
Yeah that's definitely normal. It sits in there and needs to be able to pivot at that point. It's under constant pressure so it won't come out unless you pull it out.
Keyul, the 3/4" x 3 " pivot pipe that the linkage arms are welded to some times binds do to lack of lube. I drilled, tapped and inserted a zirk fitting then packed it full of grease. seamed to help with the stiffness.
I was able to do this from underneath with out removing it
hey guys, thanks for the tips! im hopefully gonna get to adjusting it again sometime tomorrow, were losin daylight so quickly over here, theres not enough light left to see good under the hood by about 4:30 now! but i did find my new pedal return spring burried in the garage as well so hopefully after thats replaced and the proper adjustment is made she'll be good to go. thanks again.
