anyone know what the ford part # is for teh Head on an '81 300?
I have recieved a head from a relative with part #E7TZ-6049-M and I wondering if it would work on my ford? Any help would be appreciated.
that head come off of a fuel injection motor. I don't know if this will affect you or not since the injectors sit inside the intake. my only concern would be that the intake/exhaust manifold bolt patterns would differ.
someone more knowledgable than myself should be able to help you out more
the head itself was first made in 1987. so it ould be somewhere in that timeframe.
The intake and exhaust bolt pattern is the same. There may be a little different combustion chamber volume. That could be be a benefit if it is a little less. Another thing is the holes where the smog pump discharges into, if it has them they cn be plugged if you don't use them. Other than that, it should fit fine.
I don't know much about the other bolt ons, but I do know that the combustion chamber is smaller. The 86 has 8.5 compression with flat topped pistons, and the 87 has 8.8 with dished pistons to lower the compression. EFI heads with older pistons might have a high enough compression to require premium gas to prevent knocking. I got my info from a Ford service publication that they send out at the beginning of each model year to tell mechanics about any changes. Unfortunately, it doesn't give me the combustion chamber volume.
