I know there are probably many posts about this, but I just can't search at this time.
Motor was in truck #2 in April and started right up with no problems. Was able to drive it around yard and over to truck #1.
Swapped 360 over from truck #2 to truck #1. Took awhile to get everything swapped over and now that everything is swapped the motor will not start.
Put 360 into 72 which originally had a 390 in it.
I get it to turn over and get spark but it doesn't start.
I believe the firing order is correct. When I pour gas into the carb the truck will back fire occasionally and I will also get puffs out of the carb.
Any ideas?
I really want to drive to where it will sit for the winter instead of dragging it.
Did you remove the distributor in the process of swapping it over? Perhaps the points are cooked, if it is a points dizzy. Double check your firing order. When you actuate the throttle lever, are you getting a stream of fuel squirting down in the carb?
If you had the dizzy out during this, your dizzy is 180º off rotate the engine to TDC (varify true tdc via the #1 plug hole having compression) Remove dizzy & drop it back in with rotor pointing @ #1 post. Do not drop the oil pump drive shaft in the pan while doing this. If you didnt remove the dizzy during the swap,.. timing must be way off... or as mentioned points or ?
distributor was not removed. I only removed the plug wires after the motor was swapped because I couldn't turn the motor over by hand and wanted to remove the plugs to get the compression down.
Points are like 2 years old now with hardly any run time on them. I've had the truck like 1.5 years now and points were replaced before I got it. I only put like 60 miles on the truck sence I have owned it.
fuel pump is pushing gas to the card but I don't hear gas squirting into carb when I actuate throttle.
I did rebuild the carb after I got the truck and it was runnign fine after the rebuild. Could I have gummed up fuel in the carb causing it not to start?
the firing order is on the intake. Start @ 1 and follow it pass side is 1-4 from the front to back drvr side 5-8 front to back. Counter clockwise on the cap follow the order.
Bought my '67 F100/352, and it ran horrible. Got it home started to go over everything. Come to find out they had two wires switched around. Purred like a kitten after that.
