It has been a while since I have posted but I still have the same problem. I have an E-350 Diesel and when I accelerate hard up a hill or maintain 60-70 mph for a while it will start sputtering, blowing white smoke out the tail and sometimes just about die. The problem is intermittent but seems to be getting worse. I have lost about 2 mpg also. I have taken it to 3 shops now. The last one gave up and told me to come pick it up. The ford dealer said it is the IPR and High Pressure Oil Pump. Everyone told me it is not the High pressure pump including the forum. So I went to get another opinion. He could not figure out anything. He was also a diesel only shop. The third place I took it to said it was the ICP sensor because it was not putting out the proper voltage. (it transfers a pressure reading to voltage for the computer). They changed it, and that was not the problem. The next thing they thought was the ICP sensor. Again, they changed it and that was not the problem. The last thing they did was replace all the injector O-rings. They found one that was not good but again not the problem. After loosing all this money because there policy is if they don't fix it I don't pay. Well they told me to take it away. Now I am lost. I have a feeling it will be the High Pressure Oil Pump the whole time.
Does anyone have any ideas or maybe had a pressure pump go out? I need help. Thanks.
If it was the HPOP or the ICP/IPR then it would do it just about every time yo reached that 70MPH sustained load. since the inj. orings have been changed, that partially rules them out.(it is possible to mess them up when reinstalling the inj)
The van has 135,000 miles on it. And I do agree, I think it is a fuel issue also. I have not thought it was the fuel pump yet. I tend to think it is something to do with the regulation of the fuel. But I will check it out.
