Just bought winter project need id on engine
On sticker on valve cover 460"B"(2cv4)
DZVE-9C485-JA
I'm kinda new to the 429/460 thing so I need help, thanks
JL
DZVE doesn't make sense .. the 2nd char should be a number .. could it be a "2"?
The D means 1970's .. the second number is the year within the decade that the design was introduced (not necessarily manufactured).
The "V" means Lincoln usage.
You need to look on the block itself near the back for a code. Should be D1VE (1971 - 1979) or D9TE (1979 - 1997) if a 460. Not sure of all the 429 codes.
I found out my 460 was a D9TE design because I first noticed the weighted crank spacer behind the harmonic balancer, then I saw a D9TE part number on the balancer itself.

Welcome to FTE
Where exactly did you find that number? It isn't on the engine block, because a 9C485 is part of the smog pump system.
The engine block casting number is either: D1VE-6015-AB or D9TE-6015-AB.
rjvaughan: A V doesn't necessarily mean Lincoln usage, a part number prefix with a V in it could fit anything. Example: D4VZ-6316-A .. Vibration Damper fits all 1973/78 passenger car w/ a 429/460 engine.

Right you are .. I realize now that I worded that badly. The "V" just means it was originally designed for the Lincoln line, or "debuted" there .. right? Just like "T" is truck and "Z" is Mustang .. again doesn't mean it won't appear in other vehicles.
numberdummy,
The number, is on a sticker , on the valve cover on the drivers (left) side of the engine.
I guess I was most curious about the "460(B)2c4v" . I was under the impression that 4V was a 4bbl thing , but this thing has a 2bbl.
Oh, the sticker also says it meets 1977 epa standards for passenger cars.
Thanks
