Hit the brakes and then,POP! No Brakes and no Power Steering. I had to stand on the brakes to get the truck to stop. Good thing I was in town and driving slow. Got it home nice and easy. Anyone know who sell an upgrade hydro booster. Checked e-bay and thru out the Internet, but all I can find is remand hydro-boosters. Thanks in advance. Country
If BOTH the brakes and steering are "missing", it's not the hydroboost, it's the power steering pump or a hose. It's used by both systems, which are otherwise independant of each other.
If it were the hydroboost, only the power brakes would be "out", you'd still have power steering.
Both systems use pressurized oil to operate, and both are out. It's the thing that makes the pressurized oil, or a supply hose from it that's failed.
My vote is for a popped hose, and that's a LOT cheaper to fix!

Hey POP! Thank you. But now I'm really confused. I haven't got any oil on the ground what-so ever. I popped the hood thinking the same thing a blown out hose. But when I failed to see any oil on the ground I assumed the Hydro booster went out. Country
On edit: I just replaced the PS pump with the new unit from Psc too. Not that it can't go bad, but the chances are slim. Well that would really suck. I still have the old pump though. Country

WOW! If you have the saginaw "chevy" series power steering pump there is a good chance the pulley shaft could have sheared off and is no longer tuning the gear in the power steering pump. This happened to me w/ my AGR (garbage!) saginaw super pump. Check to see if the pulley will move away from the pump, or if you can pull the pulley away from the pump. If so, you may have sheared the shaft. It's a common problem for those pumps and why I no longer run one and why PSC no longer sells them.
Just an idea. Yours may be totally different.
Hey Pop, I'm gonna be out in the Morning. I should be back by noon though. I remember now Jason you saying that you'd had these problems before. I'll check it out tomorrow for a sheard shaft/pully. Thanks Guys.Country
Hey Jeremy. Yeah kinda stumped me too when there was no fluid leaking out. I do have the distinct feeling that Jason might be right on. Which kinda sucks too because I cut my stock bracket to fit the knew pump and hardware in it's place. Oh well. I guess I'll find out tomorrow. Too tired to get into it tonight. I appreciate all the info guys. Thanks you. Country
I too had cut by stock bracket. Thankfully I had the triangle piece that I removed still and took it to a local welding shop and they aluminum welded it back for me. A good shop could still weld a new piece in there for ya. Good luck.
Hey Jason, Thanks for the info. I actually called PSC this morning. I spoke to Lance. He said that they make an upgrade for the pump and he assured me that it would aleviate any further problems in the future with the pump. This of course made me happy. I just have to remove it and send it in to them for the repairs. My pump never got the upgrades done to it because it sat on my work bench for about 1-1/2 before I finally installed it. Well at this piont I will remove it tomorrow and send it in. I'll let yah know any other info I come across. Thanks agian. Country.
Hey Guys. Well I took off the pump and inspected it. All of you were pretty close to the problem bieng with the pump. It was! But Jason called it right on. The shaft/pulley sheard off the pump. I took some pics too. It's actually kind of embarrissing too. I recall a few months ago somebody wanting know about upgrading the steering pumps on our trucks to an agr or psc unit and Jason you commented on them being Garbage. Well at this piont I had already installed mine and was truely happy with it. I though to myself, well mine will be fine. Well guess what? You called Bud. So now I feel like I'm eating crow. Well for anyone out there considering doing this mod. I can now say don't!! Albeit they are going to repair it for me. PSC I mean. OH and at my cost too! Very Genorous of them. I believe there is a lesson here to be learned.
The repair to the pump is to replace the shaft. And also to turn down the flow and increase the pressure. They garuanted me that this would take care of the problem. So even though I am alittle leary of trying it agian, I am gonna let them do the repairs and reinstall it. I really like the way my truck handles with the PSC kit/pump. It makes my truck drive like a sports car. So I am gonna give it another try. Thanks Guys. Country
Well good! At least all my damn headaches w/ AGR came in handy somewhere. It's a shame, but there really is no good fix for our trucks shy of running an all out ram assist setup. I have a modified steering box and stock pump right now, and it's second best to the ram assist. Hope to add the ram one day.
Anywho, glad I could help and good luck on the second round!
BTW, did I menton I broke TWO AGR saginaw pumps!!! LOL! Hope your luck is better.

HAH HAH HAH! Yeah it sucks we have to find out the hard way sometimes. But then some of us are really hard headed. ME. But I hope this fixes it. If not I will switch over to the ram assist too. Thanks for all your Help Jason. Country
