Hydro Boost

2011 F350 with fluid leaking in through the firewall. Does the Hydro booster have to be replaced or is there a gaskets or seal on the rod that goes to the brake pedal?

Any chance you are still under warranty?

I am not sure what all is involved with this.

I have 118k miles on the truck so no warranty and no recalls or safety bulletins

Try to do a youtube search and see if you can find something.

Possible someone else might chime in as well.

I wouldn't think it would be much different on the new trucks, but on the older trucks the hydro-boost is a self-contained unit much like the brake reservoir. If it is leaking, then replacing it is the only option that I'm aware of.

That is what I was afraid of. Was thinking of putting some stop leak in the power steering pump to slow it down a little until I can get a re-manufactured part in get the time to get under there and get it done. Is that a bad idea? Don't want to screw up the system and I am not familiar with how it all works together.

I can't answer one way or the other on stopleak. I would just keep a bottle of tranny fluid handy and top off the power steering pump as necessary.

I would not do that. With hydo boost you are depending upon it for braking assist.

I think I would just check it daily and keep it full.

The P.S. pump operates your power steering obviously, but it also operates the hydro-boost system. Most stop leak things I've seen make the oil/tranny fluid thicker, and it's suppose to make seals expand in an attempt to close the leak off. I'm not going to tell you it will or will not work, I don't know. All I can tell you is that any time I've tried any kind of stop leak stuff, the only ones I've had any success was the stuff for the radiators, which you can't use in P.S. pumps. Also, thickening up the tranny fluid in your P.S. pump may be hard on your pump too.

Great thoughts. I haven't seen any drops in brake fluid at all and the booster leak has only been a few drops that have gotten on the carpet but I cringe every time I come to a stop because I know that is just a few more drips inside the truck.
I hate it when I don't have complete confidence in my vehicles. Guess I better get to it ASAP

Everyone should remember the power steering wine in the 70/80 trucks?

I can only imagine that would happen here with the stop leak stuff.

The hydro-boost uses tranny fluid which is what these trucks use in the P.S. systems instead of power steering fluid.

The FNG is in the user name for a reason. I would have looked at the manual but it is still good to get constant reminders to prevent those OS moments. Thanks for the reminder

You know, the FNG in your name didn't register until you mentioned it! Oh well, all is good.

I make it a habit to over explain things, especially if it's a new guy. And I have offended a couple people because of it. I figure it's better to over explain rather than not give enough information. Until someone has been on here for a while, we really don't know how much they know.

Welcome to FTE! I hope you like it here, and look forward to seeing you on here!
