ignition...

i have read about tha highly acclaimed msd ignitions. i was searchin throught posts and to my understanding tha ignition is a tfi...and tha box does a good job stock, so i was wondering (for now) if i would purchase a msd tfi coil, and wires w/ plugs..will this make a difference or do i need tha box as well (dont really have tha money soi was just gunna get tha coil then tha box in a month or so)

also i would like to know what gains i would get if i block tha egr off, tha reason im askin about these realitivly cheap mods is cuz i jus got a new set of 31" bfg all terrains and lost some power and speed.. is there ne other mods i can do thas pretty cheap???

The msd box and coil is a nice setup. I did mine a couple of months ago. It can get spendy though. You'd probably get a better return on performance bumping up the rear end ratio. The box makes the difference, that's what provides the multiple spark discharge.

Petersons 4wheel and Offroad did a writeup on ignition systems about a year ago. Here's what they found (Mods: if this isn't kosher delete it asap and shoot me off an email):

Test mule: 1973 GMC Jimmy, 53k mile 350 Quadrajet, oldschool Edelbrock Torquer intake and an Accel 71000 Electronic Distributor. Timing was set to factory 12 degrees BTDS. Each box was run 6 times from 20 to 95 mph (2400 to 4700RPM) in second gear. The six pulls were averaged for their final score, but they don't show each run (just the average).
