title basically says all, when I have my heater on, I can smell the radiator fluid, and i can see the smoke, it fogs up my windows qutie well. Also when I look over where the AC/Heater area is, I see fluid comming out, not in a horrible amount just a bit. So my question is, do I need to replace the heater core? or can I get lucky and just have a leak somewhere near there? and do I need to take it all out to know or is there anything else I can do?
also, I plan on driving my 79 2wd f150 with no tailgate in the snow this year, how much weight have you guys used [if anyone has done this] in the bed to make it ok for traction and just to weigh down the truck?
Well ,I can tell you the heater core is bad. Fogging up windshield is a sure sign that the core is no good. Should be a fairly easy fix possibly and hour or 2. Just have to gain access under the passenger side dashboard. The core itself shouldn't be more than 20-30 bucks.
buy traction type snow tires. i used to live in new england, in the snow belt and with 2wd trucks with good traction/ studded tires, i never got stuck. they are worth the price in gold.
My grandpa used to carry about 4-5 five gallon buckets full of sand, lashed to the side of the bed. If you were to get stuck on ice, ya had sand to dump on the ground for traction. I have seen bladders that you inflate with water, it looks like they hold 15 or so gallons of water, times 8# = 120# or so? I knew a guy who would put two 7' pieces of railroad track in his bed for extra weight, some people would load it up with snow and pack it in and heap it on.
alright thanks guys, I have two sets of nice traction tires, one studded one not studded, maybe ill just buy a couple hundred pounds, being we get a LOT of snow up here cause im in the snow belt.
and on the heater core, ive only seen it for about 60 bucks...actually im looking at the blower motor thats not what i want right

Yeah you have a bad heater core.
The rumor is that on A/C equiped trucks changing the heater core is a fairly involved job (something like 4-6 hours), and it can be a major PITA! I did the one in my truck in a couple of hours, but I don't have A/C .
I forgot that it was an A/C equipped truck, it will take longer because of the evaporator for the a/c system is in the same case. May take 4-6 hrs. to replace heater core.
Brent...contact your local scout group for bagged sand.
It can be used as clean ballast over the axles for needed weight and then traction grit when required.
It's for a great cause and.......They can use the money
thanks guys for all the info i found some bags in my garage actualyl that I thought I had i Just wasnt a 100% sure, and now i know I need a heater core... one more question http://blueovaltruckparts.com/catalo...oducts_id=6980
