I agree with you gray79f250... they are DAMN good engines. I have 251,000+ miles on my 300 six cylinder and still passing inspection and running stong as the day I bought it new. I have to get new exhaust pipes about every 5 years cause it eats the tailpipe out. Can anyone explain why that is? I've put two sets on in 10 years.
I used Autozone tailpipes and replaced them every a couple of years. They didn't even outlast the Campbell's soup can that I have band clamped between the muffler and the scavenger pipe to seal that joint. On my last one, about 5 years ago, I bought a NAPA tailpipe. Its still holding up good and is a bigger diameter, so the truck likes it better (gotta keep the truck happy.) NAPA has lowered their prices on alot of parts and are very competitive with Autozone and Discount Parts (this isn't a paid announcement.)

If they weren't completely discontinued for automotive use in 1996, due to body style change of the F150's, they may have been found in the '97 F-250 HD's. The 250 also had the 7700GVWR that looked like the 150 that year, the 300 wouldn't fit in that. Haven't seen nor heard of one of these '97 HD's with a 300-6 yet, though. I'd be interested (hint,hint)
