to find a relay or motor for my windshield wiper fluid it wont spray and i need some help? i know that the harness in the side was shorting out and then i put a spacer in it and it turned back on. its stopped again what do i try? i dont want to rip into the dash trying to get the relay out i know it goes in there.
Isn't there a pump in the bottom of your fluid resevoir? That would be the first thing I'd check or replace, if no fluid is spraying on your window. Second I'd check to make sure the lines aren't clogged or the sprayers are blocked up. Maybe some junk got into your fluid resevoir and either burned out the pump or clogged the lines? Just a thought
Might just be the little spray heads that stick up by your windshield. You can usually take the hose off of them and clean them out with some small gauge wire. Bare copper might work, but steel wire used for safety wire and otther misc fastening is better.
Can you hear the motor come on? If not , did you check all of your fuses. Something might have popped if you had a short.
I had a similar problem w/ my 99 expo' it just ended up being a fuse in the panel under the dash. I would check the fuses first for any blown ones. As far as which fuse is for this motor consult your owners manual. If you don't have the manual you can take a 12 volt test light and attach the clip end to ground and then touch the tops of the fuse on either side(do this with the key on) the light should light up on both sides if the fuse is good. If the light isn't coming on then you know that particular fuse is bad and needs replacing, only replace with the EXACT SAME amperage fuse as the one you removed.
I wouldn't be surprised if it is a fuse due to the fact that you said it was arcing out at one time. Also as a side note - be sure that all wires in the area of the arcing have been properly repaired to avoid future problems with arcing and blowing fuses.
Check the contacts in the connector that plugs into the pump motor that is located in the bottom of the fluid reservoir. Its on the side facing the engine. I had a similar problem and found that one of the contacts was corroded. I used a small drill to clean the contact and everything works fine.
