Front Drive Shaft Problem

I have a 96 F350 Crew Cab 7.3L TD . It is all stock except 5" lift. I just removed my front drive shaft so I could replace the u-joints, because I had a bad bearing rattle noise only when it was in 4wd and the hubs wherer locked in. After removing the front drive shaft and removing one of the two u-joints on the t-case side of the shaft, I found that the inner bearing on that dual u-joint piece had gone out and damaged the part that is also apart of the complete front drive shaft. I called the dealer they said they have a complete drive shaft assy. for $669.00 . Any one ever come across having to replace this parts before? Is there a way to convert to a different style front drive shaft that does'nt have this dual u-joint thing on the T-case side. I"m going to call this local drive shaft repair place in the morning to see it they could fix this one I have or not. but I was just wondering if anyone else came across this before. Thanks for any help!!

Any drive shaft repair place , will be able to repair the shaft you have if you wish..If you are lifted 5 inches ,I might mention that to them , they may have a better way to go...My son has a collection of screwed up drive shafts in my garage since he put in his lift...

I would do what ^^Rick^^ says. Driveshaft repair places will use high quality parts and re-balance the shaft. They will have replacement parts that you normally don't have access to.

With a 5" lift you definately need a double cardan joint up front.
Have you shimmed the carrier bearing on the rear drive shaft?

Hey Thanks everyone for the reply's! I called the drive shaft repair shop here this morning and they said for about $350.00 they would build up a complete new front shaft assy. ready to bolt in for me that would fit correctly with my 5" lift. alot better than having to buy a new OEM $680.00 one. They also said that it's best to have the Cardan joint in there due to the design and lift this truck has, they said it helps with clearance and viberation problems. I Also checked my rear drive shaft bearing, and I'm going to replace it as well and try to shim it about an inch or so. It does'nt seem to have been shimed at all, it justs sits up flat to the bracket. From what I hear it's best to do so. just wondering what or where im going to get a shim that will work best for this. THANKS !!
