Well, i replaced the oil pan gasket again lastnight, looked beautiful when i put it in. Filled it up with oil and started it, and let it run for a while, and it appeared to be leaking from the SAME spot again(this is where i started running around pulling my hair out) After that and saying a few swears at the the relentless oil pan gasket, my friend had spotted a stream of oil comming from up higher on the block (drivers side) the oil looked as tho it was leaking out from some sort of plate on the side of the engine and made it look like the pan gasket was leaking. Could someone tell me what that plate is for.
Well I went and looked at what i needed to do to remove the plate..I know that the powersteering pump and brackets have to be removed, maby the coil.. but i'm not to sure, has anyone ever done this and what is involved in doing this job, any help would be appreciated.
Nope, you don't have to remove that.....on my '85, the only thing I have to remove is the coil and bracket.......3 bolts and a wire....When you change the gasket, get a rubber one and silicone it to the lifter cover and let it set for an hour to let the silicone adhere to the cover and dry...don't put any silicone on the head side of the gasket......I tried that 3 times :-X11 and I couldn't get it to work (I'm VERY stubborn)
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 23-Jul-02 AT 11:32 AM (EST)]Do the rubber ones last longer and seal better because I just purchased a cork gasket from ford before reading your post. If thats the case i'll return the cork one and pick up a rubber one.
