Well, I wondered when someone would bring that up. After the first few, I thought the same thing. What a great way to stick it to the Great Satan of the west.

First, poison the pets, then go after the kids.

But, I don't think I'm ready to go with that yet. I think it's nothing but a plain old case of bald faced capitalism at its worst. Use the cheapest ingredients/materials you can possibly find, cross your fingers, and hope you can make a boat load of money before the feces hits the recirculator.

The consumers' demand for cheap product also has to take some credit.

That was my first thought.

Such a thing may have been planned.

In light of this, why have anything further to do with them?

Aero, I teeter on the fence with that one too. China can't be that blatent? Western companies can't be that obscenely cheap?

Lots of questions that will never be answered.

Buy made in USA I guess (a hard task to find anything anymore except for socks and underwear)

I thought it was funny, but then I have a warped twisted sense of humor.

Price tends to drive everything in manufactured goods. As long as people continue to make purchasing decisions based solely on price. When we purchase primarily from volume discount chains that have enough buying power to set pricing from the manufacturer, companies will always look for ways to cut cost. Chinese plants that make these products are under the same pressure to produce more goods at a cheaper price, but there is less oversight for the products they produce.

Most of these products come with a label "Made in China". It's up to you to pass on the purchase.

I do. Both at work and in my job as a plant supervisor. My buyers are allowed to purchase "Made In U.S.A." tooling and supplies only.

No Chinese. I actually write that on purchase requests.

Well another 20 or 30 million like you and we might start to get somewhere.

I miss the days when Made in China just meant cheap junk that would break. Now it's actually hazardous to your health.

I have purchased Chinese power tools knowing they were not going to last as long as Jap or American equivalents. If the price is a third and it's a tool you know you won't use much, this can sometimes make sense.

I got three years out of a Chinese job site radio, about the same lifespan as a better one but at half the cost...with electronics its almost impossible to "buy US" anymore.

One thing I have never had any luck with is Chinese power cords...you would think "how can they mess these up?" but they do...the connectors they use are so cheap they just don't work.

My question is - if it isn't deliberate, then how can they be that STUPID?

As it stands, we know their products are frequently outright dangerous regardless of why, and should be banned on that basis alone.

I don't think it has anything to do with stupidity. Human life does not have the same value in China that it does here, but I'm starting to wonder about our country as well.

I know, I know, my post will open up a whole can of worms that I sincerely do not wish to inflame, but it goes with the thread. There are so many issues and ideologies that this can bring up that it's hard to leave them out.

Make the buck, save costs on manufacturing, shipping, and distribution. We as consumers told suppliers and retailers that we want the lowest price, or we'll shop around 'til we get it. There it is, look at Walmart and Lowe's. They found a demand and they're trying to meet it. I don't want to turn this into another bash fest against Wally World and Lowe's. It just is what it is.

Maybe we all need to do with less ............. stuff, and try to buy quality stuff when we do buy it.

I think the safety issues are the main concern.

Tires that explode on the highway, kids toys that turn into dope, fuses that don't blow until many times over the rated current, and what else is out there by now?

WE are in danger because of these products. It's a fact. At least that much we know. The question becomes what to do now that we are aware of it?
