Just picked up the OEM low profile bug shield for my 2007 F-150 from a local dealer. The box it came in was open on the end so I gave it the "once-over" before I left and looked like everything was there. The actual bug shield was still in its unopened protective wrapping, but the installation hardware and instructions was in a zip-lock bag. The bug shield has the "F-150" decal on it but the installation instructions show a 2006 Explorer. The bag also included:
6 black drywall-style screws
4 bumpers with adhesive
Just wondering if these are correct of if they gave me a bag with the wrong hardware and instructions. Thanks!
I purchased an aftermarket one from weatherguard and the hardware you describe is exactly what was with the one I bought. I installed it in about 15 minutes...
You're missing the mounting brackets.I bought mine from Ford also. The screws (2) were only needed at each corner to attach the shield to the small brackets.I had to remove my grill, hold the shield in place, then re-install the grill.Along with the grill, the small mounting brackets hold it in place!
I have heard others mention bumpers. Did yours come with bumpers and if so, how many?
The bumpers keep the deflector from bouncing around. My 94 B4000(Ranger) needed them but my 01 F150 did not. The bumpers can also be used to change the flow of air over the windshield. The wind flow on the 94 w/o the bumpers, at freeway speeds, would blow the windshield washer fluid right into the air vents in front of the windshield. Very little washer fluid would make it to the windshield and you would get a healthy dose of odor hitting you in the face(if you had your vents open). You can buy a package of 6 clear plastic bumpers at OSH or Home depot for about $3. 3-4 usually will be sufficient, if you need/want to use them.
The design of the OEM (04-07) shield does not require the bumpers.
Bassaway,i'm from Prairieville,La.,thats why I asked if you bought the shield from Audabon Ford.
The Ford shield I purchased had two pieces of adhesive clear plastic to protect the hood paint where the two brackets went to support the ends of the deflector; it did not come with any bumpers. I did not remove the grille, but loosened it up enough to slip the deflector in. Heard horror stories about trying get everything realigned when the assembly was removed.

Mine came that way too.But my instructions read to remove the whole grill assembly. My 20 year old son helped me re-assemble it.I guess I could have loosened mine too.Ah well........

I was going to buy it from Hollingsworth but they wanted $130 for it. Called Harvest Sugarland in Plaquemine and they had it for $65. I usually get parts from Audubon, but I work out in Plaquemine and its just more convenient to go to Harvest. I called them the other day and they said they would order a new bug shield for me.
Uh oh! I bought the OEM chrome shield for my 06 Lariat off ebay. It came with nothing. NO mounting hardware, no brackets(?). The instructions (lousy by the way) is just a sheet of paper with some drawings that show that you have to remove the grill, place the bug shield and reinstall the grill.
Am I missing something!!??
I was just about to go outside and install it until I read this thread. Now I'm not so sure. Help!

You're missing the two mounting brackets, two bracket to shield screws, and the two adhesive stickers that go on the hood for the brackets that slip over them! Either send it back or go to your local topper/bedliner dealer and get the parts you need!
Thanks. As it turns out, the ebay seller is a Ford Dealership in MO. My first step was to email them asking where my hardware is since my local dealer says they don't sell it separately. I'm awaiting the seller's reply...
OK Guys, as noted my ebay seller turned out to be a dealer in MO. He apologized for the missing hardware and is shipping it. Now what?
The instructions that came with the shield are POS - just a few hand drawn illustrations that show removing the grille, holding the shield in place and replacing the grille. You guys talked about brackets and screws? What do the brackets attach too? There are no holes in the two tabs on the ends of the shield. The middle tab has a hole in it? Is drilling required? Inquiring minds want to know!
Seriously I'd like to mount this thing once the hardware is here but I've no clue where and how the hardware goes on and no, i have not opened the hood and removed the grille to look and see.
Instructional help appreciated from some of you who've done this before!
The center of the bug sheild gets wedged in between the hood and the grille. I do not beleive any screws penetrate this portion of the deflector. The outer portions of the bug shield and held in place my metal tabs that you attach to the hood edge, much like a paper clip, but more robust (dont worry, hood protector strips are included to prevent paint scratches). The bug sheild edges simply screw into these metal tabs. Its a pretty good design, in my opinion.
