Just installed the same one on my 08 yesterday. Here's the scoop. All you need os a 10 mm socket and rachet. A 3" extension will help. Open the hood and look for the two braces that go from the grill to the underside of the hood. Remove the two screws in each of the brackets. Now you will see 6 nuts streched across the underside of the hood. LOOSEN these almost the whole way but do not completely remove. Now this will allow you two pull the grill away from the hood about 3/8 of an inch. This will allow you to slip the long lower tabs of the shield behind the grill. Center the shield from side to side.

At each end of the shield you will see a small single hole on each side. You should have two small clear sticky pads about an inch square. Look through the small screw to see where to put these pads. About 2/3's of the pad will go above the hood and the rest below. Now take the two funny shaped metal mounting clips and a small felt pad get stuck to the face of each one of these. Take the small screw and place through the shield, into this metal clip and snug up. Place the clip against the plastic shield stuck to the hood and press onto hood. This is a very tight fit so I took a small block of wood and a hammer and tapped it onto the hood. Now tighten the two small screws. Replace the four screws into the hood brackets and tighten the 6 nuts under the hook and you should be good to go. And I agree the instructions suck ... you don't have to completely remove the grill as it actually makes this a harder job. Go to it..

Great info! That's what these forums are all about!

However, I just looked at my shield and it has no small holes anywhere. Just a large one in the center tab. The two tabs near the end of the shield are solid. Now I'm wondering if we're comparing apples to apples here? My shield is the one that goes only as wide as the grill - not from fender to fender. Could it be that's the difference? Could it be I'm the one who is mistaken and maybe this shorter shield is supposed to be held in place only by being tightened between the hood and the grille? Maybe there wasn't supposed to be any hardware?

Answers anybody??

Well my suspicions were proven correct. The short bug shield is different from the long one and does NOT require hardware for installation.
Nor does it require complete removal of the grille. Thanks to fordtruckowner for helping me work this out.

FYI to install the short bug shield you shold remove the 4 (2 each side) bolts that hold the grille frame to the hood. Then working from either side, remove all but the last one or two of the small nuts that go arcross the front of the hood. You can't just loosen them and stick the shield down between the grille and hood and here's why... this short shield has 3 tabs on it. Two at each end, one in center. The center one has a small oval shaped whole in it. If you look at your grille the hood has a matching hole where a plastic tab from the grill sticks thru. This aligns (centers) the grille. Well you have to do the same with the bug shield, that tab fits thru the whole in the shield to center it.

So, by removing most, but not all, or those small nuts, you can pull the grille out far enough so that the tabs on the shield fit between the grill and the hood AND that center plastic tab (a prong really) fits thru the whole in the center of the shield. Then simply push the grille back in place and reinstall and tighten the smaller nuts. Then go back and install and tighten the four major bolts in the grille frame. Takes about 15-20 mnutes.

Thanks to all that offered help.
