hey i was hopin someone here could help me out. im turning 16 in a couple of months and i recently bought a 96 f150. it had quite a few miles on it so we decided were were gonna get a 302 crate engine for rebuild the tranny. i plan on gettin a k&n airfilter and dual exhaust with headers. other than this wat can i do to increase hp and torque ? i wanna b able to turn 33"tires thanks
ive got a 96 4x4 5 speed the only real way to gain any more power with that truck is to change the rearend gears you will probably want to run 4.10s. jeffs bronco graveyard has all of the stuff you will need to swap them or go to a junkyard and do some searching. i wouldnt try and run duals on that truck because if you get rid of the converters the truck will run like crap i work at an exhaust shop and i swapped my cats out for one universal converter and it deffinatly made a difference and it really doesnt cut down on sound at all you can get shorty headers and a mandrel bent y pipe from jegs and run a 3 inch exhaust into dual tailpipes but i wouldnt run true duals if you have any questions just pm me and i will try to help ive only had my truck for 2 years and have learned alot about it
the first one where the pipe ys together uses the heat from each cylinder fireing to heat up the platinum inside of it to burn the co2 befor it enters the atmosphere if there is no converter there the oxygen sensor will get the wrong reading and your checkengine light will come on and give you some horrible gas mileage the second converter just burns more of the left over co2 along with using air from the air injection pump to burn the co2 more efficently it might not make much sense but thats how it effects how the truck runs. i wanted to run headers on my truck but i realized that the third oxygen sensor really effects your gas mileage so i didnt mess with it you can use a o2 sensor simulator but its hard to find good ones
There is no problem running long tubes and high flow cats on your 96 (unless laws prohibit). youll most likely just need a good welder to install 02 bungs in the collectors, plus the air tube as well.
get a old 302 a build it your self. build it to what you want it to do. you can get alot of power out of the 302. i had one with 600 at the crank. build it to what you want it for like i said
