all right, I have this wierd execleration problem.
When I step on the gas, it will kind of hang(it doesn't die or anything, just kind of "waits"), man this is going to be hard to explain. when I excelerate the rpms will stay the same and the truck will feel like it bogs down, then all of the sudden it will have power and I will feel the push in my back, I won't move the pedal during this time. I know that probably didn't make sense, but any help would be greatly appreciated.
Hello, when you say "step on the gas" do you mean to the floor or half way or what?
I think I know what you are talking about but a diagnosis may be a bit difficult. How long has it been doing these?
It could be a number of things that come to mind. Are you having any other trouble besides this? Let me know and will try and help.
Start the inexpensive way , change your gas filter , then check your fuel pumps .. you have one in the tank , one on the frame , drivers` side .. get your fuel pressure checked by a shop or a friend .. if all checks out , then I say reset your ecm by disconnecting the battery for five minutes , re-connect , then hold idle at 2000 rpm for 30 seconds , 1500 rpm for 30 seconds , then let idle on it`s own , then add fuel injector cleaner , and drive for a while on the highway.
If none of these helps , then try cleaning your MAF (mass air flow sensor) on your air intake. A dirty MAF sensor will also cause what you describe , my wife`s FORD car did the exact same thing , and the MAF was dirty..
Hope this helps!

That actually sounds like you could be running lean/rich. The best(and easiest)way is to pull one of your spark plugs. If the ground is black, then you're running rich. If it is white, then you're running lean. If it is another color, then it isn't that. I know this from experience.
There is no mass air flow sensor on his 88'. They didnt even start putting them in until 94, and that was on California equipped emissions vehicles with a V-8 and automatic (i think). Then in 95 they put them on some V-8s with automatics. Then in 96 I believe most of the V-8s got them and California equipped I-6's got them. I might be off, but I think i'm close.
