I just recently purchased a 05 F-250 with manual door locks. I received one aftermarket (Ilco H72-PT) key from the seller, and that key fits the ignition only. It never occured to me to try them in the door locks before completing the sale, and now I have no way to lock or unlock my doors from outside the truck. What are my options? Can the dealer cut a replacement key using the VIN? I did notice my drivers side door lock appears to be messed up. There is usually a little cover the closes the keyhole, well that cover is bent or missing. So I might need to replace the lock cylinder on that side. Any help is appreciated. Part numbers would be great too. Thanks in advance.
HOW recently did you purchase the truck? Was it a FORD dealer? I'd be back to the dealer I bought it from in a flash and be bitching like crazy...and making sure I did it when other customers can hear!! If you buy a vehicle from any dealer, you should expect to be able to lock (and unlock) the doors!!
Nope, the truck was not from a Ford dealer. It was from an out of state mom and pop used car dealer. Got it really really really cheap. Still expected to be able to lock and unlock the doors though!!!! Go figure...
Take the cylinders to a locksmith. They can key them alike pretty reasonable if you do most of the work, i.e., removing and re-installing the cylinders. If they do it, it costs lots more. Have them start with a fresh key when they do the job, not a used one.
So the car lot left it unlocked all the time? Did you get an owner manual? Most of them have a place where the original owner could write down the code for the key. This code is used to cut another key.
Hummmm... I didn't think of removing the 3 cylinders. I will have to try that. Apparently, the dealer did in fact leave it unlocked the entire time. And no, I do not have the original owners manual. I have since purchased another one, but it has yet to be delivered to me. Not that it would be of any help. I wonder if the code is stamped on the cylinder itself? Looks like either way I will end up removing the cylinders and need to get them rekeyed. Hopefully they can match the ignition key. On these trucks, there is one key for both the doors/tail gate and the ignition, correct?

All you have to do is remove one, they all match anyway, either the door or the tailgate.
Sounds like the truck was once stolen then recovered. The door lock is probably messed up from someone breaking in that way. The ignition lock was replaced and now has a different key. You should be able to get a new replacemant ignition and door lock keyed alike. A Carfax check will tell you the story.

If it was stolen it would most likely have a salvage title, most states do that now.
Carfax, AutoCheck, they all come back clean. It was a 1 owner, and I received the original title. For whatever reason, the ignition and doors/tailgate don't match. I will probably end up replacing the drivers side lock as it looks like someone messed with it. And while I have them all out I will get them keyed the same.
Just an update... maybe it will help someone else out. I brought one lock cylinder (front drivers door) and the ignition cylinder to the local locksmith and he made a new key matching the current ignition and door configurations. $45 and 2 hours of time and I was done. The only thing he couldn't do was program another chip key, because I only have one. For that I guess I will have to go to the dealer and pay the $90 for getting a second key programmed, unless someone has a better idea? Thanks all!
