I am putting an efi 5.0 in my old 66 f100. I have an aod but am really considering putting a manual tranny in it. I'm building a driver not a worker. Will a t5 fit in this truck and still allow use of a bench seat? I had an old 79 with the 3spd O/D and would even consider putting one of the SROD in the truck.
Anything I need to know before I start buying the parts?
I have a 79 tilt column, I am also adding power steering, and can't get the shift linkage to work smoothly. I haven't really seen a floor shifter that I like for an old truck when I don't want it to look like a hod rod.
There is no known reason that the shifter wont work the AOD. The shift pattern is the same on the AOD as other auto trannys that worked off the 79 column.
You could have some issues with the install itself causing the selector not to work. In theory it should work just fine, but after many years of working on these old trucks, I know sometimes the bucket wont hold water.
You might look at an older Ford Ranger automatic floor shifter. Not too "hot rod" looking. It has a nice short plate, but a long shifter handle. I think and aerostar shifter is pretty similiar.
I am having trouble following this thread. In the first post "I am putting an efi 5.0 in my old 66 f100. I have an aod but am really considering putting a manual tranny in it."
In the second "I have a 79 tilt column, I am also adding power steering, and can't get the shift linkage to work smoothly."
Let's get you on the road before winter sets in and you can start over next spring. The t5 is gonna require installation of a fluid clutch system plus multi lever shift rods. Most car trannys shift off the tail shaft which will be under your seat.
