I can't get the door ajar light to go away and stay away. When I go over a bump or pothole it comes on with the chime, and sometimes the overhead light too.
Also, when I close my driver's door, the light will try and stay on.
I have done the WD-40 and electrical contact cleaner trick, sprayed right in the door latch.
Driving me nuts and not so safe driving at night when the light comes on and blinds you.
Is it still a dirt in the latch problem or something more? Perhaps an electrical demon or bad ground? Where would I start to fix it?
Check the area around the latch to see if there is another hole or gap you can shoot the WD40 in from another angle. Then work the door & latch a few times to see if it helps. Might try shooting some in from the window seal gap at the side closest to the latch with the window all the way down. Aim the straw toward the latch. If some gets on the window at least you can wipe it off.
I agree with the wd40 at all angles. I had the same problem on the passenger side door. I sprayed the stuff everywhere from all angles possible on the door latch and on the hook. It took several times, 3 different days if I remember correctly but it did work. Truck smelled like a metal working shop for several weeks after that (so what its a truck and it worked). At the very least for safety reasons, take your dome light out until you get the problem fixed.
Good Luck
I have been squirting the heck out of it, but will go for the different angle approach tomorrow. The light does go off if I am extra firm shutting it while pressing against the door latch. Alternately, I have to open and close the door several times with the right pressure if I am inside.
